Under condition of anonymity

Republican Billionaire NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg donated $100 million to Johns Hopkins University. The best part of the whole article can be found in the 1st sentence:

"Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire known for his philanthropy, anonymously donated $100 million Thursday to Johns Hopkins University to support stem cell research, a new children's hospital and other projects, The Associated Press has learned."

Great research and journalism Sara Kugler, now go look up anonymous in the dictionary before you write any more articles.

On another side note, I would like to use this to inform all liberals and democrats that this proves that everything George Bush says and does NOT represnt the views of all republicans or even anyone beyond his office.

As an update/reminder, stem cell research has never shown any applicability in human trials, despite billions of dollars in research and hundreds of great minds working on it. Bush's decision was only to prevent federal funding on NEW stem cell lines, there is still federal funding available for pre-existing stem cell lines.

You have to admit that the potential is there for stem cell research and without funding we will never know their full capabilities. The fact that we have cells that can become any other cell type in our body is worth studying. Am I saying we should make embryos just for research? No, but don't try to hold back science on your own morals Mr. President.

Never shown any applicability? How about because there is a very short list of human trials out there.

How about the human cartiledge that was grown on the back of a mouse and then utilized to replace a man's ear?

There are stem cells in every tissue type. Utilizing these stem cells hold the promise of transplants sans rejection.

This has already proven to be hugely helpful in treatment of heart failure. The heart muscles are healed. This is being used in Europe, and has been accepted in the US. Yahoo or Google news it.

There's also the potential that paralyzed people will once again walk.

There was a great article in Discover magazine years ago about a group of doctors that used stem cells extracted from a sheep's lungs to create new, healthy lung tissue - IN the living sheep. They cored out a hole, pasted the stem cells on...and the hole filled. Imagine the human application of the same procedure.

People that lump all types of stem cell research into one big category have not done their homework, and I will go so far as to say they are fearful of it because of the connection to embryonic stem cell research.
